Savitri Buch 3 Canto 2 (ID ist identisch mit Buchzeile rechts!)

ID English Deutsch Zeile
A STILLNESS absolute, incommunicable, 1
Meets the sheer self-discovery of the soul; 2
A wall of stillness shuts it from the world, 3
A gulf of stillness swallows up the sense 4
And makes unreal all that mind has known, 5
All that the labouring senses still would weave 6
Prolonging an imaged unreality. 7
Self’s vast spiritual silence occupies Space; 8
Only the Inconceivable is left, 9
Only the Nameless without space and time: 10
Abolished is the burdening need of life: 11
Thought falls from us, we cease from joy and grief; 12
The ego is dead; we are freed from being and care, 13
We have done with birth and death and work and fate. 14
O soul, it is too early to rejoice! 15
Thou hast reached the boundless silence of the Self, 16
Thou hast leaped into a glad divine abyss; 17
But where hast thou thrown Self’s mission and Self’s power? 18
On what dead bank on the Eternal’s road? 19
One was within thee who was self and world, 20
What hast thou done for his purpose in the stars? 21
Escape brings not the victory and the crown! 22
Something thou cam’st to do from the Unknown, 23
But nothing is finished and the world goes on 24
Because only half God’s cosmic work is done. 25
Only the everlasting No has neared 26
And stared into thy eyes and killed thy heart: 27
But where is the Lover’s everlasting Yes, 28
And immortality in the secret heart, 29
The voice that chants to the creator Fire, 30
The symbolled OM, the great assenting Word, 31
The bridge between the rapture and the calm, 32
The passion and the beauty of the Bride, 33
The chamber where the glorious enemies kiss, 34
The smile that saves, the golden peak of things? 35
This too is Truth at the mystic fount of Life. 36
A black veil has been lifted; we have seen 37
The mighty shadow of the omniscient Lord; 38
But who has lifted up the veil of light 39
And who has seen the body of the King? 40
The mystery of God’s birth and acts remains 41
Leaving unbroken the last chapter’s seal, 42
Unsolved the riddle of the unfinished Play; 43
The cosmic Player laughs within his mask, 44
And still the last inviolate secret hides 45
Behind the human glory of a Form, 46
Behind the gold eidolon of a Name. 47
A large white line has figured as a goal, 48
But far beyond the ineffable suntracks blaze: 49
What seemed the source and end was a wide gate, 50
A last bare step into eternity. 51
An eye has opened upon timelessness, 52
Infinity takes back the forms it gave, 53
And through God’s darkness or his naked light 54
His million rays return into the Sun. 55
There is a zero sign of the Supreme; 56
Nature left nude and still uncovers God. 57
But in her grandiose nothingness all is there: 58
When her strong garbs are torn away from us, 59
The soul’s ignorance is slain but not the soul: 60
The zero covers an immortal face. 61
A high and blank negation is not all, 62
A huge extinction is not God’s last word, 63
Life’s ultimate sense, the close of being’s course, 64
The meaning of this great mysterious world. 65
In absolute silence sleeps an absolute Power. 66
Awaking, it can wake the trance-bound soul 67
And in the ray reveal the parent sun: 68
It can make the world a vessel of Spirit’s force, 69
It can fashion in the clay God’s perfect shape. 70
To free the self is but one radiant pace; 71
Here to fulfil himself was God’s desire. 72
Even while he stood on being’s naked edge 73
And all the passion and seeking of his soul 74
Faced their extinction in some featureless Vast, 75
The Presence he yearned for suddenly drew close. 76
Across the silence of the ultimate Calm, 77
Out of a marvellous Transcendence’ core, 78
A body of wonder and translucency 79
As if a sweet mystic summary of her self 80
Escaping into the original Bliss 81
Had come enlarged out of eternity, 82
Someone came infinite and absolute. 83
A being of wisdom, power and delight, 84
Even as a mother draws her child to her arms, 85
Took to her breast Nature and world and soul. 86
Abolishing the signless emptiness, 87
Breaking the vacancy and voiceless hush, 88
Piercing the limitless Unknowable, 89
Into the liberty of the motionless depths 90
A beautiful and felicitous lustre stole. 91
The Power, the Light, the Bliss no word can speak 92
Imaged itself in a surprising beam 93
And built a golden passage to his heart 94
Touching through him all longing sentient things. 95
A moment’s sweetness of the All-Beautiful 96
Cancelled the vanity of the cosmic whirl. 97
A Nature throbbing with a Heart divine 98
Was felt in the unconscious universe; 99
It made the breath a happy mystery. 100
A love that bore the cross of pain with joy 101
Eudaemonised the sorrow of the world, 102
Made happy the weight of long unending Time, 103
The secret caught of God’s felicity. 104
Affirming in life a hidden ecstasy 105
It held the spirit to its miraculous course; 106
Carrying immortal values to the hours 107
It justified the labour of the suns. 108
For one was there supreme behind the God. 109
A Mother Might brooded upon the world; 110
A Consciousness revealed its marvellous front 111
Transcending all that is, denying none: 112
Imperishable above our fallen heads 113
He felt a rapturous and unstumbling Force. 114
The undying Truth appeared, the enduring Power 115
Of all that here is made and then destroyed, 116
The Mother of all godheads and all strengths 117
Who, mediatrix, binds earth to the Supreme. 118
The Enigma ceased that rules our nature’s night, 119
The covering Nescience was unmasked and slain; 120
Its mind of error was stripped off from things 121
And the dull moods of its perverting will. 122
Illumined by her all-seeing identity 123
Knowledge and Ignorance could strive no more; 124
No longer could the titan Opposites, 125
Antagonist poles of the world’s artifice, 126
Impose the illusion of their twofold screen 127
Throwing their figures between us and her. 128
The Wisdom was near, disguised by its own works, 129
Of which the darkened universe is the robe. 130
No more existence seemed an aimless fall, 131
Extinction was no more the sole release. 132
The hidden Word was found, the long-sought clue, 133
Revealed was the meaning of our spirit’s birth, 134
Condemned to an imperfect body and mind, 135
In the inconscience of material things 136
And the indignity of mortal life. 137
A Heart was felt in the spaces wide and bare, 138
A burning Love from white spiritual founts 139
Annulled the sorrow of the ignorant depths; 140
Suffering was lost in her immortal smile. 141
A Life from beyond grew conqueror here of death; 142
To err no more was natural to mind; 143
Wrong could not come where all was light and love. 144
The Formless and the Formed were joined in her: 145
Immensity was exceeded by a look, 146
A Face revealed the crowded Infinite. 147
Incarnating inexpressibly in her limbs 148
The boundless joy the blind world-forces seek, 149
Her body of beauty mooned the seas of bliss. 150
At the head she stands of birth and toil and fate, 151
In their slow round the cycles turn to her call; 152
Alone her hands can change Time’s dragon base. 153
Hers is the mystery the Night conceals; 154
The spirit’s alchemist energy is hers; 155
She is the golden bridge, the wonderful fire. 156
The luminous heart of the Unknown is she, 157
A power of silence in the depths of God; 158
She is the Force, the inevitable Word, 159
The magnet of our difficult ascent, 160
The Sun from which we kindle all our suns, 161
The Light that leans from the unrealised Vasts, 162
The joy that beckons from the impossible, 163
The Might of all that never yet came down. 164
All Nature dumbly calls to her alone 165
To heal with her feet the aching throb of life 166
And break the seals on the dim soul of man 167
And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things. 168
All here shall be one day her sweetness’ home, 169
All contraries prepare her harmony; 170
Towards her our knowledge climbs, our passion gropes; 171
In her miraculous rapture we shall dwell, 172
Her clasp shall turn to ecstasy our pain. 173
Our self shall be one self with all through her. 174
In her confirmed because transformed in her, 175
Our life shall find in its fulfilled response 176
Above, the boundless hushed beatitudes, 177
Below, the wonder of the embrace divine. 178
This known as in a thunder-flash of God, 179
The rapture of things eternal filled his limbs; 180
Amazement fell upon his ravished sense; 181
His spirit was caught in her intolerant flame. 182
Once seen, his heart acknowledged only her. 183
Only a hunger of infinite bliss was left. 184
All aims in her were lost, then found in her; 185
His base was gathered to one pointing spire. 186
This was a seed cast into endless Time. 187
A Word is spoken or a Light is shown, 188
A moment sees, the ages toil to express. 189
So flashing out of the Timeless leaped the worlds; 190
An eternal instant is the cause of the years. 191
All he had done was to prepare a field; 192
His small beginnings asked for a mighty end: 193
For all that he had been must now new-shape 194
In him her joy to embody, to enshrine 195
Her beauty and greatness in his house of life. 196
But now his being was too wide for self; 197
His heart’s demand had grown immeasurable: 198
His single freedom could not satisfy 199
Her light, her bliss he asked for earth and men. 200
But vain are human power and human love 201
To break earth’s seal of ignorance and death; 202
His nature’s might seemed now an infant’s grasp; 203
Heaven is too high for outstretched hands to seize. 204
This Light comes not by struggle or by thought; 205
In the mind’s silence the Transcendent acts 206
And the hushed heart hears the unuttered Word. 207
A vast surrender was his only strength. 208
A Power that lives upon the heights must act, 209
Bring into life’s closed room the Immortal’s air 210
And fill the finite with the Infinite. 211
All that denies must be torn out and slain 212
And crushed the many longings for whose sake 213
We lose the One for whom our lives were made. 214
Now other claims had hushed in him their cry: 215
Only he longed to draw her presence and power 216
Into his heart and mind and breathing frame; 217
Only he yearned to call for ever down 218
Her healing touch of love and truth and joy 219
Into the darkness of the suffering world. 220
His soul was freed and given to her alone. 221
