Savitri Buch 3 Canto 1 (ID ist identisch mit Buchzeile rechts!)

ID English Deutsch Zeile
All is too little that the world can give: Zu klein ist alles, was die Welt geben kann: 1
Its power and knowledge are the gifts of Time Ihre Macht und Ihr Wissen sind Geschenke der Zeit 2
And cannot fill the spirit‘s sacred thirst. Und kann den heiligen Durst des Spirits nicht stillen. 3
Although of One these forms of greatness are 4
And by its breath of grace our lives abide, 5
Although more near to us than nearness‘ self, 6
It is some utter truth of what we are; 7
Hidden by its own works, it seemed far-off, 8
Impenetrable, occult, voiceless, obscure. 9
The Presence was lost by which all things have charm, 10
The Glory lacked of which they are dim signs. 11
The world lived on made empty of its Cause, 12
Like love when the beloved’s face is gone. 13
The labour to know seemed a vain strife of Mind; 14
All knowledge ended in the Unknowable: 15
The effort to rule seemed a vain pride of Will; 16
A trivial achievement scorned by Time, 17
All power retired into the Omnipotent. 18
A cave of darkness guards the eternal Light. 19
A silence settled on his striving heart; 20
Absolved from the voices of the world’s desire, 21
He turned to the Ineffable’s timeless call. 22
A Being intimate and unnameable, 23
A wide compelling ecstasy and peace 24
Felt in himself and all and yet ungrasped, 25
Approached and faded from his soul’s pursuit 26
As if for ever luring him beyond. 27
Near, it retreated; far, it called him still. 28
Nothing could satisfy but its delight: 29
Its absence left the greatest actions dull, 30
Its presence made the smallest seem divine. 31
When it was there, the heart’s abyss was filled; 32
But when the uplifting Deity withdrew, 33
Existence lost its aim in the Inane. 34
The order of the immemorial planes, 35
The godlike fullness of the instruments 36
Were turned to props for an impermanent scene. 37
But who that mightiness was he knew not yet. 38
Impalpable, yet filling all that is, 39
It made and blotted out a million worlds 40
And took and lost a thousand shapes and names. 41
It wore the guise of an indiscernible Vast, 42
Or was a subtle kernel in the soul: 43
A distant greatness left it huge and dim, 44
A mystic closeness shut it sweetly in: 45
It seemed sometimes a figment or a robe 46
And seemed sometimes his own colossal shade. 47
A giant doubt overshadowed his advance. 48
Across a neutral all-supporting Void 49
Whose blankness nursed his lone immortal spirit, 50
Allured towards some recondite Supreme, 51
Aided, coerced by enigmatic Powers, 52
Aspiring and half-sinking and upborne, 53
Invincibly he ascended without pause. 54
Always a signless vague Immensity 55
Brooded, without approach, beyond response, 56
Condemning finite things to nothingness, 57
Fronting him with the incommensurable. 58
Then to the ascent there came a mighty term. 59
A height was reached where nothing made could live, 60
A line where every hope and search must cease 61
Neared some intolerant bare Reality, 62
A zero formed pregnant with boundless change. 63
On a dizzy verge where all disguises fail 64
And human mind must abdicate in Light 65
Or die like a moth in the naked blaze of Truth, 66
He stood compelled to a tremendous choice. 67
All he had been and all towards which he grew 68
Must now be left behind or else transform 69
Into a self of That which has no name. 70
Alone and fronting an intangible Force 71
Which offered nothing to the grasp of Thought, 72
His spirit faced the adventure of the Inane. 73
Abandoned by the worlds of Form he strove. 74
A fruitful world-wide Ignorance foundered here; 75
Thought’s long far-circling journey touched its close 76
And ineffective paused the actor Will. 77
The symbol modes of being helped no more, 78
The structures Nescience builds collapsing failed, 79
And even the spirit that holds the universe 80
Fainted in luminous insufficiency. 81
In an abysmal lapse of all things built 82
Transcending every perishable support 83
And joining at last its mighty origin, 84
The separate self must melt or be reborn 85
Into a Truth beyond the mind’s appeal. 86
All glory of outline, sweetness of harmony, 87
Rejected like a grace of trivial notes, 88
Expunged from Being’s silence nude, austere, 89
Died into a fine and blissful Nothingness. 90
The Demiurges lost their names and forms, 91
The great schemed worlds that they had planned and wrought 92
Passed, taken and abolished one by one. 93
The universe removed its coloured veil, 94
And at the unimaginable end 95
Of the huge riddle of created things 96
Appeared the far-seen Godhead of the whole, 97
His feet firm-based on Life’s stupendous wings, 98
Omnipotent, a lonely seer of Time, 99
Inward, inscrutable, with diamond gaze. 100
Attracted by the unfathomable regard 101
The unsolved slow cycles to their fount returned 102
To rise again from that invisible sea. 103
All from his puissance born was now undone; 104
Nothing remained the cosmic Mind conceives. 105
Eternity prepared to fade and seemed 106
A hue and imposition on the Void, 107
Space was the fluttering of a dream that sank 108
Before its ending into Nothing’s deeps. 109
The spirit that dies not and the Godhead’s self 110
Seemed myths projected from the Unknowable; 111
From It all sprang, in It is called to cease. 112
But what That was, no thought nor sight could tell. 113
Only a formless Form of self was left, 114
A tenuous ghost of something that had been, 115
The last experience of a lapsing wave 116
Before it sinks into a bourneless sea,— 117
As if it kept even on the brink of Nought 118
Its bare feeling of the ocean whence it came. 119
A Vastness brooded free from sense of Space, 120
An Everlastingness cut off from Time; 121
A strange sublime inalterable Peace 122
Silent rejected from it world and soul. 123
A stark companionless Reality 124
Answered at last to his soul’s passionate search: 125
Passionless, wordless, absorbed in its fathomless hush, 126
Keeping the mystery none would ever pierce, 127
It brooded inscrutable and intangible 128
Facing him with its dumb tremendous calm. 129
It had no kinship with the universe: 130
There was no act, no movement in its Vast: 131
Life’s question met by its silence died on her lips, 132
The world’s effort ceased convicted of ignorance 133
Finding no sanction of supernal Light: 134
There was no mind there with its need to know, 135
There was no heart there with its need to love. 136
All person perished in its namelessness. 137
There was no second, it had no partner or peer; 138
Only itself was real to itself. 139
A pure existence safe from thought and mood, 140
A consciousness of unshared immortal bliss, 141
It dwelt aloof in its bare infinite, 142
One and unique, unutterably sole. 143
A Being formless, featureless and mute 144
That knew itself by its own timeless self, 145
Aware for ever in its motionless depths, 146
Uncreating, uncreated and unborn, 147
The One by whom all live, who lives by none, 148
An immeasurable luminous secrecy 149
Guarded by the veils of the Unmanifest, 150
Above the changing cosmic interlude 151
Abode supreme, immutably the same, 152
A silent Cause occult, impenetrable,— 153
Infinite, eternal, unthinkable, alone. 154
