ID English Deutsch Zeile
After a measureless moment of the soul 1
Again returning to these surface fields 2
Out of the timeless depths where he had sunk, 3
He heard once more the slow tread of the hours. 4
All once perceived and lived was far away; 5
Himself was to himself his only scene. 6
Above the Witness and his universe 7
He stood in a realm of boundless silences 8
Awaiting the Voice that spoke and built the worlds. 9
A light was round him wide and absolute, 10
A diamond purity of eternal sight; 11
A consciousness lay still, devoid of forms, 12
Free, wordless, uncoerced by sign or rule, 13
For ever content with only being and bliss; 14
A sheer existence lived in its own peace 15
On the single spirit's bare and infinite ground. 16
Out of the sphere of Mind he had arisen, 17
He had left the reign of Nature's hues and shades; 18
He dwelt in his self's colourless purity. 19
It was a plane of undetermined spirit 20
That could be a zero or round sum of things, 21
A state in which all ceased and all began. 22
All it became that figures the absolute, 23
A high vast peak whence Spirit could see the worlds, 24
Calm's wide epiphany, wisdom's mute home, 25
A lonely station of Omniscience, 26
A diving-board of the Eternal's power, 27
A white floor in the house of All-Delight. 28
Here came the thought that passes beyond Thought, 29
Here the still Voice which our listening cannot hear, 30
The Knowledge by which the knower is the known, 31
The Love in which beloved and lover are one. 32
All stood in an original plenitude, 33
Hushed and fulfilled before they could create 34
The glorious dream of their universal acts; 35
Here was engendered the spiritual birth, 36
Here closed the finite's crawl to the Infinite. 37
A thousand roads leaped into Eternity 38
Or singing ran to meet God's veilless face. 39
The Known released him from its limiting chain; 40
He knocked at the doors of the Unknowable. 41
Thence gazing with an immeasurable outlook 42
One with self's inlook into its own pure vasts, 43
He saw the splendour of the spirit's realms, 44
The greatness and wonder of its boundless works, 45
The power and passion leaping from its calm, 46
The rapture of its movement and its rest, 47
And its fire-sweet miracle of transcendent life, 48
The million-pointing undivided grasp 49
Of its vision of one same stupendous All, 50
Its inexhaustible acts in a timeless Time, 51
A space that is its own infinity. 52
A glorious multiple of one radiant Self, 53
Answering to joy with joy, to love with love, 54
All there were moving mansions of God-bliss; 55
Eternal and unique they lived the One. 56
There forces are great outbursts of God's truth 57
And objects are its pure spiritual shapes; 58
Spirit no more is hid from its own view, 59
All sentience is a sea of happiness 60
And all creation is an act of light. 61
Out of the neutral silence of his soul 62
He passed to its fields of puissance and of calm 63
And saw the Powers that stand above the world, 64
Traversed the realms of the supreme Idea 65
And sought the summit of created things 66
And the almighty source of cosmic change. 67
There Knowledge called him to her mystic peaks 68
Where thought is held in a vast internal sense 69
And feeling swims across a sea of peace 70
And vision climbs beyond the reach of Time. 71
An equal of the first creator seers, 72
Accompanied by an all-revealing light 73
He moved through regions of transcendent Truth 74
Inward, immense, innumerably one. 75
There distance was his own huge spirit's extent; 76
Delivered from the fictions of the mind 77
Time's triple dividing step baffled no more; 78
Its inevitable and continuous stream, 79
The long flow of its manifesting course, 80
Was held in spirit's single wide regard. 81
A universal beauty showed its face: 82
The invisible deep-fraught significances, 83
Here sheltered behind form's insensible screen, 84
Uncovered to him their deathless harmony 85
And the key to the wonder-book of common things. 86
In their uniting law stood up revealed 87
The multiple measures of the upbuilding force, 88
The lines of the World-Geometer's technique, 89
The enchantments that uphold the cosmic web 90
And the magic underlying simple shapes. 91
On peaks where Silence listens with still heart 92
To the rhythmic metres of the rolling worlds, 93
He served the sessions of the triple Fire. 94
On the rim of two continents of slumber and trance 95
He heard the ever unspoken Reality's voice 96
Awaken revelation's mystic cry, 97
The birthplace found of the sudden infallible Word 98
And lived in the rays of an intuitive Sun. 99
Absolved from the ligaments of death and sleep 100
He rode the lightning seas of cosmic Mind 101
And crossed the ocean of original sound; 102
On the last step to the supernal birth 103
He trod along extinction's narrow edge 104
Near the high verges of eternity, 105
And mounted the gold ridge of the world-dream 106
Between the slayer and the saviour fires; 107
The belt he reached of the unchanging Truth, 108
Met borders of the inexpressible Light 109
And thrilled with the presence of the Ineffable. 110
Above him he saw the flaming Hierarchies, 111
The wings that fold around created Space, 112
The sun-eyed Guardians and the golden Sphinx 113
And the tiered planes and the immutable Lords. 114
A wisdom waiting on Omniscience 115
Sat voiceless in a vast passivity; 116
It judged not, measured not, nor strove to know, 117
But listened for the veiled all-seeing Thought 118
And the burden of a calm transcendent Voice. 119
He had reached the top of all that can be known: 120
His sight surpassed creation's head and base; 121
Ablaze the triple heavens revealed their suns, 122
The obscure Abyss exposed its monstrous rule. 123
All but the ultimate Mystery was his field, 124
Almost the Unknowable disclosed its rim. 125
His self's infinities began to emerge, 126
The hidden universes cried to him; 127
Eternities called to eternities 128
Sending their speechless message still remote. 129
Arisen from the marvel of the depths 130
And burning from the superconscious heights 131
And sweeping in great horizontal gyres 132
A million energies joined and were the One. 133
All flowed immeasurably to one sea: 134
All living forms became its atom homes. 135
A Panergy that harmonised all life 136
Held now existence in its vast control; 137
A portion of that majesty he was made. 138
At will he lived in the unoblivious Ray. 139
In that high realm where no untruth can come, 140
Where all are different and all is one, 141
In the Impersonal's ocean without shore 142
The Person in the World-Spirit anchored rode; 143
It thrilled with the mighty marchings of World-Force, 144
Its acts were the comrades of God's infinite peace. 145
An adjunct glory and a symbol self, 146
The body was delivered to the soul,— 147
An immortal point of power, a block of poise 148
In a cosmicity's wide formless surge, 149
A conscious edge of the Transcendent's might 150
Carving perfection from a bright world-stuff, 151
It figured in it a universe's sense. 152
There consciousness was a close and single weft; 153
The far and near were one in spirit-space, 154
The moments there were pregnant with all time. 155
The superconscient's screen was ripped by thought, 156
Idea rotated symphonies of sight, 157
Sight was a flame-throw from identity; 158
Life was a marvellous journey of the spirit, 159
Feeling a wave from the universal Bliss. 160
In the kingdom of the Spirit's power and light, 161
As if one who arrived out of infinity's womb 162
He came new-born, infant and limitless 163
And grew in the wisdom of the timeless Child; 164
He was a vast that soon became a Sun. 165
A great luminous silence whispered to his heart; 166
His knowledge an inview caught unfathomable, 167
An outview by no brief horizons cut: 168
He thought and felt in all, his gaze had power. 169
He communed with the Incommunicable; 170
Beings of a wider consciousness were his friends, 171
Forms of a larger subtler make drew near; 172
The Gods conversed with him behind Life's veil. 173
Neighbour his being grew to Nature's crests. 174
The primal Energy took him in its arms; 175
His brain was wrapped in overwhelming light, 176
An all-embracing knowledge seized his heart: 177
Thoughts rose in him no earthly mind can hold, 178
Mights played that never coursed through mortal nerves: 179
He scanned the secrets of the Overmind, 180
He bore the rapture of the Oversoul. 181
A borderer of the empire of the Sun, 182
Attuned to the supernal harmonies, 183
He linked creation to the Eternal's sphere. 184
His finite parts approached their absolutes, 185
His actions framed the movements of the Gods, 186
His will took up the reins of cosmic Force. 187
